The Blu Tank Xtreme 5.0 is Rough, Rugged and Remarkable Value for Money

If you’re looking for a phone that can take a serious beating but doesn’t deliver a wallop to the wallet, the Tank Xtreme 5.0 could be exactly what you’re looking for. The latest in a long line of recently releases from Blu, it’s probably safe to say the Tank Xtreme 5.0 isn’t the prettiest device on the market, but it’ll certainly look (and work) better than your current Smartphone if you threw both down a flight of stairs!

Even with the best Blu cases on the market right now, you won’t be looking at a total package as rugged as this.

Boasting IP65 certification for dust protection and water-resistance, it’s the kind of phone you can take place and do things with you probably wouldn’t normally dare. That being said, it’s worth noting that while it’s water-resistance from top to bottom, this doesn’t mean you can take it in the ocean with you on vacation for underwater photography. It won’t crap out on you on a rainy day, but nor is it built for photographing fish!

Away from the robustness of the thing, what you get for your money is a 720p display of 5-inches, an overall build that’s nowhere near as bulky as you might expect and twin 5-megapixel front and rear cameras. MediaTek’s 1.3GHz quad-core MT6580 CPU does the business under the hood, backed by a bog-standard 1GB of RAM and a pretty poor 8GB of in-built storage space. That said, it can take a 64GB MicroSD card, so all hope is not lost.

One positive thing about the semi-average specs is the way in which this allows the 3,000mAh battery to deliver up to three days of use, assuming you don’t go nuts with anything too power-hungry. Back on the downside, it’s a shame they’ve decided (for some reason) to load it with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box, given that Nougat has been out and about for over six months now.

Still, it’s hard to knock the total package the Tank Xtreme 5.0 represents, given the fact that it is up for grabs without a contract for just $130. It’s only for sale at Amazon right now and is restricted to GSM networks, but is still a pretty good deal given the price.
