The recently-launched late 2013 refresh of the MacBook Pro is already out in the market, and it would appear some 13-inch editions are suffering from a few pertinent issues, such as system freezes and a non-responsive keyboard and mouse.
A growing number of customers who purchased the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display’s late-year refresh are reporting their complaints on Apple’s customer support forums, and as of the moment, it’s not yet sure whether the issues are related to a hardware or software bug. Different configurations of the refreshed, Intel Haswell-powered 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro have been reported to be experiencing the problems, including the base edition with 4 GB RAM and the midrange configuration, which comes with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage space.
Indeed, there seem to be several users who have complained about freezing systems on the 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro, and once the system recovers from the freeze, the following message is shown on the console – ““The USB device Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad (Port 5 of Hub at 0×14000000) may have caused a wake by issuing a remote wakeup (2)” No one has yet to report any files lost due to the issues, but any work in progress at the time of the system freeze would be lost in the process.
As Apple has yet to provide any official statement acknowledging the bugs or any official solution to the problem, the usual array of manual workarounds are available for affected MacBook Pro with Retina Display users. Some users have reported success after putting their devices to sleep for five minutes, while others have to wait a little longer, somewhere around 10 to 15 minutes. Others are able to reset the SMC, or System Management Controller through a series of steps, and have been successful in getting their machines to respond. In any case, these are just temporary fixes, and do not take care of the root problem.
