The Royal Rumble this Sunday night looks set to be one of the most important, unpredictable and downright enjoyable of any major WWE even seen in years. With the winner slated to earn a world title shot at Wrestlemania 33, The Undertaker will make his triumphant return later tonight and is one of the bookies’ favorites to take it all the way.
Fans had been hoping to see John Cena square off with The Undertaker at Wrestlemania this summer. The showdown was supposed to take place last year, but had to be put on ice indefinitely after Cena sustained an injury. It was then widely expected that the match would be organized to take place at the event this year, though WWE owner Vince McMahon recently went on record to state that it wouldn’t be happening in New Orleans a few months from now.
Instead, The Undertaker will go head to head with someone from the Raw roster, which in all likelihood at this stage will be Roman Reigns. Despite the recent fan backlash against Reins, he’s still a firm priority for McMahon who plans to take him back to the top-end of the title picture over the coming months.
In terms of the final four, the closing minutes of the Royal Rumble this year could be nothing short of spectacular. Though nothing’s set in stone, it’s widely anticipated that The Undertaker will be left in the ring with Bill Goldberg, Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman for the ultimate showdown. They also have pretty equal odds to take home the title, with The Undertaker having just a slight edge as favorite.
Triple H will be the first in the ring this year, followed by Chris Jericho who only needs to stay in the action for three minutes to hit a new personal milestone.
