New York To Open Tallest Outdoor Observation Deck In Western Hemisphere

New York has some of the most famous viewing spots in the world and its about to add another one to its impressive collection which will be known as the Edge.

Edge will be at the top of 30 Hudson Yards building and the observation desk is set to open sometime during the first quarter of 2020 with views of the New York skyline which can’t compare to any other in the city.

Edge stands at 1,100 feet which will make it the fifth highest in the world but the tallest outdoor observation deck in the Western Hemisphere and definitely taller than the Empire State buildings observation deck which is 1050 feet above street level and taller than Top of the rock at the Rockefeller center which is 850 feet above street level.

It will take visitors just 60 seconds to reach the Edge (shaped in the form of a triangle), which has a 7,500 square foot outdoor viewing ares extending 65 feet to its point from the 100th floor of the new 30 Hudson Yards tower.  Edge includes a glass floor offering a bird’s eye view of the city and will have glass barriers surrounding it all around.

It will allow visitors to experience unobstructed, panoramic views of New York city like no one has ever seen before as they seemingly walk out into the sky, says Jason Horkin, executive director of Hudson Yards Experiences.

He says that the name Edge reflects the exhilarating feeling visitors will experience of being ‘on edge’ – on the brink of something truly exceptional because of its almost all glass design structure which pierces the sky when people observe it from ground level below.

Edge will also have a 10,000 square-foot restaurant, bar, and event space.
The building complex itself, 30 Hudson Yards tower, will house more than 100 shops and other restaurants and also The Shed, a cultural performing arts venue as well as a public square and gardens.

30 Hudson Yards tower is located on Manhattan’s west side, and is built over 28 acres of a working rail yard. It is reported to be the largest privately built real estate project in the entire US and will cost somewhere around 28 billion.

One of its first future tenants is said to be WarnerMedia which will include CNN.

William Pedersen of Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates designed the 30 Hudson Yards tower which is part of Manhattan’s newest neighborhood Hudson Yards.
